My parents first took me hiking on the Appalachian Trail when I was 10 years old and I have been hooked ever since. I have hiked a large portion of the trail that passes through Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia and Pennsylvania. My goal is to one day hike the entire trail. Hiking has taught me that it is possible to be happy with next to no personal belongings, luxuries or technology and how to perservere even when something seems impossible. I am thankful that my parents introduced me to the Appalachian Trail because the valuable lessons I learned have shaped me into the person I am today.
I love running because it is an activity that almost anybody can become good at if they work hard enough. I have always run as a hobby and I have never been interested in competing in races, but my mindset changed when I learned I could use running as an opportunity to help others. I am running in the Disney Princess Half Marathon in February to raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. My goal is to raise $1,500 through my St. Jude Heroes fundraising page. I hope I can continue to run for a cause for many years to come.
